In the UK, 3 million children are at risk of going hungry in the school holidays.
Parents around the country are faced with having to provide around 60 extra meals over the period of the summer, to ensure their kids don’t suffer from hunger.
Families whose children rely on school breakfast clubs and/or free or subsidised lunches, will be hit hard over the next 6 weeks, as will the Foodbank service on the Island.
These additional meals add an estimated £30-40 pound a week to parents’ outgoings per child, and as you can imagine, this extra cash isn’t always easy to find.
Earlier this week, the Isle of Man Foodbank posted an image on social media, showing the depleted stocks in one of their food stores on the Island with the caption;
‘WE REALLY DO NEED YOUR HELP – SCHOOL IS NEARLY OUT AND HOLIDAY HUNGER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER…’
The post has been met with a great response, and members of the public have been offering to donate food supplies.
If you are able to help, they are specifically calling out for the following foodstuffs:
Breakfast cereals (variety pack always good!)
The charity are also in the Tesco store in Douglas this weekend (20/07) raising funds and collecting foodstuffs.
